It is a complicated story scattered through time and space. You need to ok with not having the answers to all the questions and just enjoy the search, the exploration. It's a complicated fairy tale that made me want to study storytelling. It is very much vibe more than quest.

I wanted to like this book more, some parts had me enthralled others left me …flat. Usually jumping around in a story is fine (for me) but this was to distracting. Following Zackary and many other slew of characters was sometimes dizzying.
I wish this one had been as enjoyable as The Night Circus.

This book was magical, wondrous, awe-inspiring. It's a hard book to describe really, all you need to know is that it is beautiful. Let the writing style move and carry you on gentle waves, embrace the bewilderment and mystification, and just enjoy the ride.

This book was so beautiful both in writing and the world I got to be a part of while I read! Her writing is stunning, and I wanted to be in this world. There was a lot I didn't fully understand as the lines between reality and stories were blurred, but it all came together in the end! I was so sad when I finished because I could keep reading stories about Zachary and the starless sea!

While a bit slow to start and bogged down in places, this is a magical and unique story unlike anything I’ve ever read!

This book was a whole bunch of disconnected partially completed stories. I was hoping everything would come together in a compelling way, but at 74% the existing stories have not been linked, and new stories keep being introduced that are not cohesive with the world building up to that point. Introducing time travel and reincarnation in the second half of a book with little to no explanation exceeds my ability to suspend disbelief. While I did enjoy the smaller sub stories, I find myself annoyed they they are left incomplete in favor of endless pages of Zachary bumbling around an over-hyped underground library. And don't even get me started on the so called LGBT "romance" between two characters who couldn't possibly have any less chemistry.
