Wow I'm kind of blown away, this novel is told from the perspective three different women, who don't necessarily know each other, but are connected to each other. What I love is all the women are flawed, and all lie. It going to be compared to Gone Girl, with a unreliable narrator against a different perspective. In this novel there are three unreliable narrators, that you have to figure out what the truth is. This is a good mystery because are 5 potential and two are narrators. I will say that I guessed wrong about who was the killer, But when I you get the truth out of the narrators and the evidence it makes sense. I kind of makes you want to read it again knowing who the killer is and the way they are.
It seems to be necessary for all reviews to compare this to Gone Girl - so I'll say that I think I liked this one a little better. I don't quite think it lives up to the hype (same with Gone Girl) but it's a page-turner, that's for sure, even though I did predict the ending (if not the journey to the ending) pretty accurately, right down to the last little twist (as it were).
Something interesting I noted while reading: the book takes place in the London suburbs and the language, every now and then, reminds you that it's Britain, but it was, for me, somehow COMPLETELY without a sense of place. It didn't feel British to me, not even a little bit, and when I picture the setting in my head it is, at best, a fuzzily generic American suburb. I don't know why this strikes me as so strange, but...

I love a book with an unreliable narrator. This was a very good quick read to get me out of a reading slump.

I'm thinking this is more of a 3.5 than a 4, but it was such a page turner that I went with the 4. I need to sit down and process my thoughts on it all before an actual review. Some of the characters really irked me, but the plot kept my attention throughout the book.
Although it kept me engaged, this book was arduous. There was not a single character to “like”. Maybe that was the point. Toward the end, before the big “twist” I was struggling to continue. I’m giving it 3 stars because the ending did surprise me, however I felt as though there could have been less character development…everyone is shitty, we get it.
