If you're looking for something to both break and heal your heart, I absolutely recommend Tiny Beautiful Things. It is part advice column and part memoir, but above all it is a beautiful, thoughtful, poetic, and heartbreaking book. I love the honesty in the featured letters, as well as how Cheryl Strayed weaves her personal stories with practical advice for the letter writers. Another lovely aspect of this book is that each letter can be read separately or as a whole, depending on the experience you're looking for.

This book was phenomenal. Did I agree with all of her advice, no—but it was heartfelt and authentic and honest. I laughed, I cried. I felt.

I loved this book. It is my favorite of the year so far. I’m very surprised, because when I first started the book and realized that the format was like “Dear Abby,” I almost didn’t continue with it. I figured there was no way I would enjoy an advice column structure, but ultimately decided to give it a try because I liked Wild so much when I read it a decade ago. I’m so happy I continued. Cheryl Strayed is a beautiful storyteller, and I found myself in so many of her responses.
I really enjoyed the whole book, but certain passages really resonated with me. This is a book I’m going to wind up purchasing, so I can refer back to it. “You Live on Planet My Baby Died” was such a genuine and true way to describe love, loss, grief and living after a terrible thing happens. “The Black Arc of It” was so very good. “It’s never going to be ok.” I loved “The Human Scale” and Cheryl’s perspective on God, faith, and when bad things happen to good (or bad) people. “The bad things you did” really struck a chord with me and the importance of forgiving yourself. “The ordinary miraculous” was beautiful and heart wrenching. And “Trust Yourself Wildly” was the exact advice I needed when I was 25. And maybe now.
I loved this book and think most people would find something in it for them.
