I don’t know why this cover looks like it’s from 1992, but the book was written in 2016. It lowered my expectations for sure.
I didn’t have a problem with the reason for the 3rd act breakup as some other reviewers mentioned - it wasn’t really a moral disagreement. It was clear that Jace was letting his own past issues color everything in his present.
The thing that really bothered me was the number of times he accused her of lying about her past with an abusive boyfriend. We’re given very few details about what happened in the past, and in painfully slow and confusing increments. This is the 21st century, and we believe victims now.
TW/CW: domestic abuse and blaming the victim.
