I didn't give this 5 stars because it could drag at times, but overall it is an excellent biography not just of Fred Rogers, but of the "work" that he created. There is much to be learned from the life and work of Fred Rogers; if we would only heed it. If we would only be more Fred-like would a wonderfully kind planet we could live on.

There were two shows I loved as a young child -- Reading Rainbow and (even more) Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. I was excited to read more about the life of the man who was my "neighbor" growing up but I was also a bit hesitant. When you read biographies of people who you grew up liking and admiring, sometimes you end up reading something that ruins that image you had of them. With this book, I never reached that moment. In fact, I ended up gaining more appreciation and respect for the man who, to this day, still manages to teach me something new.

I used both the eBook and the audiobook to get through the book and it was well worth it. I'll have to admit that I enjoyed the audiobook more. It was read by Levar Burton and it made the book come more alive than just reading it on the Kindle. I would recommend getting the audiobook if only for the extras that don't come with the physical book or the eBook. I won't spoil it by saying what the extras on the audiobook are, but one of them gave the biography the perfect ending that you wouldn't get otherwise.

I completely enjoyed this comprehensive biography. The author did an excellent job presenting Fred Rogers with the incredible depth this complex man desired. Highly recommend audiobook, narrated by Levar Burton.

Love him so much.

I have a deep love for Fred Rogers stemming from my childhood, when in some small way he helped raise me over the television. Robert Fulghum learned everything he needed from kindergarten. I wonder if everything I learned came from Mr. Rogers. I know that there are other influences in my life but he was a big one and his life interests in helping others especially children, developmental psychology, music, and religion are also some of my great interests.

He was a good man. I am grateful I was a recipient of his teaching even though I never met him.

The subject matter had so much potential as Fred Rogers was an incredible man, but the book was repetitive and the writing style was boring.

I liked this book, but it has really started to drag on for me. I think it's just my current attention span at the moment and not the book itself because two people in my life who I think have excellent taste both highly recommended this book. But, I'm giving it back to the library and may try again later. I'll still give it a Goodreads rating of 3 stars (I like it).

I loved that this book gave me a fuller picture of a man I looked up to as a kid. Hearing about his path as not always being so perfect, about the trials and tribulations of someone who truly seemed to have it all together, made Mr. Rogers that much more relatable and true - qualities that make him so endearing to millions. To me the writing felt a bit like it was wandering its way through his life, and I felt as though many of the more superfluous details could have been omitted to talk more about some of the harder hitting facets of Mr. Rogers life and work. Regardless, recommended for anyone who wants to learn more about the life of one of our time's kindest neighbors.

What a fantastic biography. I had no idea it was narrated by LeVar Burton. I'm extremely picky with my audiobook narrators but bought this one without checking because Fred Rogers is a hero of mine, even without having background knowledge of his life. This was just... overwhelming in the very best way. To find out that Mr Rogers was a continous student of early childhood education, an ordained minister(I'm fairly skeptical regarding religion but this fits Fred), had a degree in music and actually was just as good of a person that I thought he was... AND to have the narration be done by LeVar?! I couldn't be happier.

I cannot tell you how wonderful this book is, especially when read by Levar Burton. Great memories from childhood and a look at an important man whose advice we should still be taking.
