You know how you look up to someone since you were a kid and now your an adult and you look into the life of said person and find out that they are not what you thought? That is not the case with Mister Fred Rogers. He was a beautiful person just like I thought he was. He was caring and compassionate. He wanted to make sure kids knew that they mattered and their feelings were valid. He was a modest man who loved his family and God. If you loved Mister Rogers neighborhood please read this. It is so insightful from his time as a kid to his college years to when he got into tv and so on. Highly Reccomend!

Fred Rogers was such a beautiful soul. I grew up watching him, and it is nice to know he was exactly how he appeared on The Neighborhood.

I found this a rather good read on the life of Fred Rogers. It does wander at times to things that are not important about his life; such as other children programming and bios of other people he crossed paths with. At times the narrative is lost in other things before finding it's way back to the point. I will read again in the future but I am not in a rush to buy it.

Really fascinating biography that makes you appreciate even more the man who was such a part of so many of our childhoods. I love that the audiobook was read by LeVar Burton (Reading Rainbow)! Highly recommend, especially for someone who’s just seen the movie and wants to know more.
emotional informative inspiring slow-paced

As a child of the 80s, public broadcast television was a huge part of my life growing up.  I grew up with Mr. Rogers (or "Mr. Shoes" as my Nonna called him).  I visited his neighborhood daily with my big brother, and learned so much while I was with him.  Mr. Rogers and his home were a safe haven for us.  Back then, though, I had no idea why I loved him. Now, I get it... this book helped me get it.
This book is a heartfelt, encompassing tribute to a pioneer in the field of children's television and early childhood education. It details how Fred Rogers dedicated his life and his gifts to create a legacy that lives on today.  As a parent, a teacher, and as a human, I can still appreciate his contributions to society.
I stumbled upon this book by accident while browsing my library's audiobook resources. When I settled in to listen, I felt like I'd hit the nostalgia lottery when I immediately recognized the voice of Levar Burton (Reading Rainbow) narrating. This PBS-watching 80s kid could not have been happier. What a treat! I could not have imagined a better choice to narrate this book, and halfway through the prologue I was already getting emotional. I enjoyed the rest of the book as well and learned a lot about this American legend.

A solid survey of Rogers’ life and work, including the kindness and compassion he is best known for. The roots of public television for children, and Rogers’ early life are interesting—but there are long spells of dry, day-to-day summaries of shooting the show that become tedious.

DNF at page 50, which is rather disappointing considering I had to wait EIGHT MONTHS for my hold to come in from Overdrive. It’s also really disappointing because I grew up watching Mr. Rogers and was prepared to love this book. While I did learn a few super interesting things that I hadn’t known before, the writing is mediocre at best and VERY repetitive. I just can’t. I guess it’s time to hunt down the documentary from a few years ago and watch that instead. Sad panda.

I had to DNF this at 50%. I LOVE Fred Rogers and I really wanted to love this book. However, I found myself dozing off or becoming uninterested in the middle of sentences. The writing felt redundant, dry, and it would go off on needless tangents that really had no impact or importance. I really did try but I finally had to put it down.

This was an interesting read. Nostalgia, my love of kids, and my kids’ love of Daniel Tiger helped me connect more to the content and Mr. Rogers life story, otherwise it isn’t a particularly remarkable account.
