Wow, this was hard to read, so I let it go a little more than halfway through. Uncomfortable. While I appreciate the effort to make a young woman fully and completely human, that we don't often get to see/read about female "anti-heros," etc., Queenie is just . . . not that interesting. I think I wanted her to have been written better, like to not just live on the surface of so many "types" -- the tragic, self-loathing, self-destructive, secretly smart/funny/better-the-rest and more.

Take a pass. There are better stories about modern young (non-white) women trying to figure their stuff out in the world.

More like a strong 3.5 stars, actually. I really enjoyed Queenie's character, and my favorite part of the book was seeing her growth and her relationships with her friends and family. But I do feel like this book could have used another 50 pages. It felt like we were just given a little bit of who Queenie was becoming, and I wanted more of that. Overall though, a great read!

There’s a lot going on in this book, and I’m still processing what happens. There is a lot of wit and humour, but also a lot of sadness and trauma processing. Still trying to sort out what I think…

Very interesting exploration of race, gender and family trauma. Written really well too.

Pretty clumsily written, with a few moments of insight. Plot is pretty cliched, but in what's sometimes an informative way.

Queenie was infuriating

I liked the underlying story BUT I found the text/email format of some parts distracting and annoying.
