Okay, wow. Just, FUCKING WOW. I am having a BLAST rereading this series because it's reminding me how FUCKING AWESOME this series is. Now, if I were to go into detail about everything I loved about this volume, this review'd be five pages long and nobody wants that. In the interest of conciseness, I'm going to briefly discuss everything I loved and leave it at that. Okay? Okay, let's go!

Isabella's backstory and what I'm assuming is the conclusion to her character was heartbreaking, realistic, and perfectly works in the context of the story. I didn't feel like I was forced to sympathize with her and learning more about her doesn't wash away her crimes, but it does explain a lot of her behavior and ideology, which I greatly appreciate. That scene where tiny Ray is singing her song, though. Damn, that hits me HARD in the feels EVERY DAMN TIME.

Ray vowing to live and learning to think on his feet to do so is awesome character development and I love it. I also adore his interactions with Emma, they make a great duo. Speaking of Emma, she's really grown throughout this series and her approach to helping everyone escape proves that. The fact that she allows others to make their own decisions rather than forcing hers on others is something that I really admire about her and what makes her such a compassionate person.

THAT FUCKING ESCAPE, THOUGH. Damn, that was so fucking cool!

The worldbuilding is slow, but I'm already digging the outside world. It really feels like nature has adapted the world around it, and you as a human can't even comprehend it.

Those are my thoughts regarding this volume. I would say this is easily my favorite so far and I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel about the next few arcs.
