Read this book so I could get some background information for the upcoming Eternals movie. The story was very interesting with the Eternals becoming human and not knowing they are eternal beings with super powers. I’m very interested in reading more graphic novels or comics in the future.

It does not feel like a solid stand alone work sadly. The end of the collection (1-7) says “Beginnings” or something, and it definitely felt like only the beginning of a longer series. The story had good potential but didn’t live up to my expectations. There were so many characters introduced without good characterization that even as I was finishing reading the graphic novel I didn’t really care one way or the other for the characters.

2008, first read: I had never heard of the Eternals before I read this graphic novel. Totally blew my socks off, I feel like I need to seek out the original version now. Loved it!

2021 update: I was surprised when I went to add this to Goodreads that I had read it before - and that I had loved it. Dropping this from my initial 5 stars to 3 stars, because it was really... unmemorable. The story is interesting but without somewhere else to go after it... meh.

I really wanted to like it but I hated the art and could not bond with any of the characters at all. I liked the dialogue well enough. But after 7 volumes, I hoped to have some curiosity peaked. I was just happy to find I was done.

I feel like the cover art didn't match with the theme of the story. That being said I was enthralled with this world and the characters. It was such a great reimagining of the original series!

It was not what I was expecting, I was hoping it would be more entertaining or so, unfortunately no, but I would say it is an interesting take on the Eternals story.

I expect to be able to read Eternals' Omnibus collection next year so I can get to know more about them and maybe like them more.

It’s a whole lot of exposition that ultimately doesn’t go anywhere. Was the assumption that Gaiman would continue the story in subsequent arcs? Or was Marvel planning on having other writers come in and continue the story from where this volume left off? But either way, there’s just not a lot here. It feels like the first piece of a story and it ends at exactly the moment it starts getting interesting.

This felt like a chore to read, if I'm being honest. I had high hopes for this run based on the fact it was written by Neil Gaiman, but it just fell flat. The story was choppy and the humor was overall lacking. The whole run just lacked the zest I was so dearly hoping it would have.
