I loved this! I couldn't put it down and annoyed at myself for letting this book collecting dust for 10 years! And right now, if I own the rest of the series, I could happily binge.

The protagonist, Evelyn Baine, is a rising star as a Profiler with the FBI. She's got a broken past and is now completely absorbed by work with no time for anything else in her life. Until this particular active case with a serial killer who got her in his sight.

I can't pinpoint anything particularly unique to this protagonist except for some genetics. A bit stereotypical, I guess, but as this fits right within my reading comfort zone and fast-paced, I practically read it in a single sitting. If you loved [author:Isabella Maldonado] then you'd love this one.

Very good mystery involving a serial killer and a profiler. There is also a special operative guy who is in love with the tiny profiler but he does not still the show by having to rescue her as she can hold her own which I also appreciated. I bought the follow up as soon as I finished this one, I relly wanted to know how the romance progressed and what happened to the heroine best friend who was abducted as a kid.

I waivered about reading this book several times but then when I say and read a glowing review by one of my fellow reader friends, I thought ok, I have to read this book. So reading the review and the fact that this book is in my favorite genre, I did not give a second thought to picking it up to read. The book started out good. The cops find the bodies of several women who had been buried in the ground. It set up the story. It was even explained as a little as to why the killer buried the women. The next scene was intense with Evelyn getting kidnapped and fighting her way to freedom. Then the action stopped and the story began. It seemed to move slow without much more happening from the killer or the police. In fact, it seemed like the only one giving any input was Evelyn. Everyone else was unforgettable. I got to chapter six and nothing new was happening in the story. It even was a struggle to get to chapter six. I was reading like 1 chapter at a time or trying to finish at least 1 chapter at a time. I finally could go no longer and have to put this book down.

Elizabeth Heiter introduces her suspenseful debut HUNTED, #1 Profiler, a new series and FBI criminal profiler, Evelyn Baine—one tough cookie!

Evelyn Baine is with the BAU (Behavior Analysis Unit) with the FBI and gets called in for an assignment in a small Virginia town. She is not a rookie anymore and she has earned her spot; however, she is the youngest in the group.

She is sent to a small town in Bakersville, Virginia where women are being tortured and raped and buried up to their neck with heads exposed. Being a profiler, she has to deal with the local authorities and their resistance--which is always trying, especially in small towns, when they do not like outsiders.

Evelyn becomes almost obsessed with solving the murders; however, this time, instead of being the hunter, she becomes the hunted.

A gripping debut—I actually read Vanished first #2 Profiler; was so intrigued, purchased the audio to find out more about Evelyn—smart, dedicated and driven. Janina Edwards delivered a suspenseful tension filled performance.

Heiter does an outstanding job with the crime scene, office politics, cop procedures, and delivers fast paced action. The Bakersville Burier was evil personified! What sets the thriller apart is the main protagonist—Evelyn –you will root for her.

Highly recommend Hunted, Vanished and Seized! An author to follow.

Read for Fun (Physical Copy)
Overall Rating: DNF

Why the DNF: I was really sad to put this one down because the Thriller part was super well done. I did flip to the back to see how it all turned out. The problem was, the angst was super high and it kind of ruined the characters for me. It was like a super melodramatic Criminal Minds episode and that just doesn't work for me. The writing was excellent and the story flow was good. So if you like drama in your thrillers then I really think this will work for you.

How far I made it: 150 pages (yes I was trying really hard to push through)

Elizabeth Heiter's debut novel Hunted is an intriguing and fast paced mystery. Lead protagonist's Evelyn Baine's job as an FBI profiler is unique which makes it stand out from the typical police procedural.

Evelyn Baine is on the career fast track when she is assigned to profile a killer who brutally murders his victims and displays them in a grotesque fashion. She is dedicated to her job (to the point of obsession) and she has a remarkable ability to get inside the minds of the criminals she profiles. When the search for the "Bakersville Burier" becomes personal, Evelyn is in danger losing her objectivity, her career and ultimately, her life.

Evelyn is a strong but deeply flawed heroine. She is closed off from just about everyone around her, defensive and reluctant to accept anyone's help. Socially awkward and unable to make small talk, Evelyn keeps to herself except for her monthly get-togethers with her two college friends. She is dedicated to the grandmother who essentially raised her and the vulnerability she hides from everyone becomes apparent during their visits. A traumatic incident from Evelyn's childhood haunts her, guides her career decisions and motivates her to sharpen her investigative skills.

Among the vast cast of secondary characters, there are a few worth noting. Her trainer and partner Greg Ibsen is the perfect sounding board for Evelyn and as a profiler, he can read some of the things she tries to keep hidden. Greg is genuinely concerned for her safety and her career when she makes some iffy decisions. Greg's cousin Gabe is not quite as serious as the other characters and he brings some levity to the story. Gabe's friend Kyle "Mac" McKenzie brings the possibility of a future romance between him and Evelyn in future works.

The mystery aspect of Hunted is quite riveting and the profiling process is fascinating. The resistance Evelyn encounters from fellow law enforcement officials adds realism to the storyline. The investigation is well-plotted and for the most part, believable. There were a few events that stretched the bounds of credibility but overall, were easy to overlook. Multiple points of view provide insight into the various characters and the shifts in perspective were easy to follow. All in all, it is an exciting introduction to Elizabeth Heiter's Profiler series and I am looking forward to the next installment.

My boyfriend found this book in his house, and I decided to read it. It was okay. Parts of it were quite suspenseful and read smoothly. Other parts of it were confusing and clunky and, without warning, told from different character perspectives than the main character. I wasn’t super impressed with her writing style and the main character seemed way too jumpy and angsty to be an FBI agent. It wasn’t a bad mystery, but I won’t be reading the rest of the series.
