I wanted to like this a lot more, based on all the glowing reviews from everyone I know. I guess I like my horror creepy, not just bloody. Jade was a fairly flat character, just reciting plot points from every slasher movie, and not having much else of a personality. Tightening it up (it really could have been 100 pages shorter) probably would have improved it a lot.

Majority of reviews are going to say the same thing as this one. It is a slow burn horror. It doesn't hit the gas until the latter half of the book but when it does you know. That being said there are some plot lines that never get fully resolved. Which will leave you with some questions

OK I've slept on it now here's what I think.

I really loved Jade's arc. It was great to see her growth, positive and negative, throughout the story. The horror was *horror* making my skin crawl in places (which is rare). Buttt.......I wasn't convinced by the actual Scooby-Doo behind the horror. The reason for it...just didn't seem to follow very well. Instead incorporation into the story, we just get a huge *oh it's this thing that will take several paragraphs to explain.* And it wasn't a shock moment. I just kind of shrugged because we'd barely heard of this possibility!! I loved meeting Jade, but I think this was more of a miss than a hit for me.

Strong opening, prolonged narrative - got a little bored in the middle but I really enjoy Mr. Jones' writing, and Jade's main character. Enjoyed the Slasher 101 essays as a fun touch as a horror nerd. Enjoyed the ending!
