The book started off play I was intrigued. The murder of her sister was definitely a good way to grab my attention early on on the book In the middle of the book it got a bit repetitive for me, but towards the end the oase picked up again and I loved it. I definitely want to read the next book in the series

So I read this after our Library instagram readers voted that I should... and I'm conflicted. In the beginning I enjoyed the premise and introduction of the characters, but the poor world building left me lost as to the actual 'when' and 'where' of the story. Was it the real Italy? A modern setting or historical? It took far too long for me to place.
Secondly, the pacing was off. Things would happen either very quickly or incredibly slowly, with some seemingly big moments then completely glossed over.
Emilia and Wrath also start sharing a magical tattoo and she doesn't think anything of it? Nothing at all??
Thirdly, there were several moments that were downright confusing, where I had to go back over paragraphs to try and work out what I'd missed... Other moments seemed to happen mostly for plot progression and then were barely mentioned again!
While there were some good moments here, I struggled to care about the characters or the storyline. And I'm also not sure about it's audience: at times it felt YA, but others distinctly adult. I'm going to try [b:Kingdom of the Cursed|52772417|Kingdom of the Cursed (Kingdom of the Wicked, #2)|Kerri Maniscalco|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1613554873l/52772417._SX50_.jpg|73131089] mostly to try and work out where this series belongs... but honestly wouldn't be reading it otherwise.
