Maybe I just had too high of expectations? I feel like I know nothing about the characters. Story was kind of boring. The romance was meh.

I loved the eerie atmosphere of this book. The isolated kingdom of Blunder, shrouded in mist and rife with fear. I liked the magic system in this book. The way that magic always comes at a cost and people still choose to use it. The Providence Cards and all their specific uses. Elspeth and Nightmare have such an interesting relationship. It’s hard to pinpoint. I don’t know if they hate each other or love each other. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next! That ending? I’m picking up the next one immediately!

this one definitely grew on me. i wasn't all that into it in the beginning but the more time went on the more i liked it, especially the ending. i thought the magic system was unique and interesting and i loved the nightmare, he was my favorite part of the book what a freak. reminds me of the darkling but less annoying. elspeth was cute even if she took forever to realize things but i can understand considering she's had a lot going on. all in all, i enjoyed this and i can't wait to see what happens in the next one

This is one of the best books I’ve read in awhile with a very original magic system. A fantasy with gothic themes. Never have I wanted to convert a book to a screenplay more. Sleepy Hallow meets your typical fantasy realm— except this isn’t your typical fantasy book. OBSESSED.

I loved  this book! It’s a little eerie but not dark. The magic is very different and the way the author writes, it feels like a gripping film that I can’t look away from. I am very excited to read the second one!
