The book has its ups and downs, some chapters are very catching and have nice concepts on them, others quite boring.

Intro to self-help/self-reflection for bros, but this is not a criticism as I think it is hard to reach this demographic and he manages to make it short, funny and accessible.

I think it hits on the idea of entitlement in a way other books that work to raise our own responsibility and self-awareness do not - he touches upon not blaming others/the world for our problems and self-reflecting. This was a quick read and I finished the audiobook in a little over 24hrs. The author narrates it himself and it is very light-hearted and pretty fun to listen to.

While I can appreciate his perspective, my main criticism is that it falls into a common trap of touting victorious pessimism by ways of conflating optimism/positivity with fakeness/toxic positivity. Being positive doesn't mean ignoring negative feelings or the state of the world, it just means choosing not to only focus on those things and not to let them drag you down and dominate your life. Mark's perspective reminded me of that happy side/sad side bus meme, where there are two cartoon characters sitting on opposite side of the bus, one elated staring at a sunny landscape, one depressed staring at a grey wasteland and it would read "everything is f*cked."

It is what it is. Should have been a 20-page thing. There's so much info here that's from other fields and this dude's repeating without recognition... Not sure if I learned much of anything new. There were some good lessons I guess, mostly to remind myself of. For a person proclaiming uncertainty and humility as a principle, the author makes way too many generalizations and assertions.

A funny kick in the a-- for embracing honesty with yourself, with nice anecdotes.
