This book contains 21 mini biographies of famous cis-women with different backgrounds, from different countries and periods of time.

As interesting as the concept sounds, I felt that I leant more about the Author than the women and that there was too much of a focus on the home life of some women (male partners, children and parents etc) - although some discussion is needed, we didn't need that much focus.

There were multiple discussions of SA and rape, including some with graphic detail with no warning in advance.

I also felt that some of the included women performed hateful/shocking acts that the author overlooked despite the feminist nature of the book

An enthusiastic and easily digestible collection of historical and biographical essays on women that Murray is inspired by. I found A History of the World in 21 Women bright and impassioned. I did not always agree with Murray's overall enthusiasm for some of the women she writes about, but part of the joy of the book is listening to her perspective - and its difference to my own. Graphic, hopeful, and glowing with respect for women and their stories.
