Wow. Just wow. I really loved it. I literally couldn't put it down. I read way too late into the night. And the ending didn't disappoint. It's almost as good as the second one, and that is high praise. There are several questions I have as a person who loves world-building, but I was mostly able to just let them go and follow the storm. And storm it was! Lots of running and being captured and running again in this one. It was a fun ride.

This series began a little slowly but became a truly great story that I'll want to go back and read again. It would take a long time to read as a bedtime story but has all the classic elements of a good fantasy complete with a unique story that is very enjoyable. Books 2 and 3 were much more engaging and Book 3 was hard to put down for long. I recommend this series to fantasy lovers, young or old.

my lasting impression of this book is being annoyed with the plot and the characters, and fingerlings 🥴

Again, I wasn't as big a fan of this series as I wanted to be. The premise was amazing, the action was great, but the dream sequences I thought at times were not all that. The thought that an 11 year old kid, (or maybe he is older in this one...) would spend that much time in self-evaluation in his dreams is a bit off for me. A few of my kids that I gave the title too enjoyed it more than me, but said they skipped parts...

I wanted to like this third book. The story threads wrapped up nicely, but at times the descriptions (especially those of travel) were much too long and hard to follow. I think the book might have been 1/4 shorter, but I know that the last book in any series carries a lot of pressure, and makes the author feel like they have to say everything worth saying before they lose contact with these particular characters and settings.

Regardless, this is a good adventure series for middle grade readers or young adult alike.
