I'll be honest: I liked Bagley and Immonen's art much better. Not to say that Lafuente doesn't have interesting things going on - he definitely does. And the story, as always, is a lot of fun.

I honestly picked this up thinking it was the original Ultimate Spider-Man (well, rented it). However, I'm definitely not upset by this because it was great book. I'm not a big fan of some of the designs, but some others look amazing, like the "mystery" hero and Mysterio's Atomic Skull cosplay. The coloring looks amazing, and of course, most importantly, the story and characters are well written, as I'd expect from Bendis. Peter is very likable and the side characters get enough time to care about them and their relationships are very nice and surprisingly realistic. The story isn't the major focus, the characters are, but what's ther is interesting and fun. A lot of mystery, a lot of a city dealing with disaster (something that happened before this, not spoilers), and a lot of great Spidey-quips. It's not a masterpiece, but it's a great trade and does a lot to get me invested in its world and characters.

I thought this series ended with Volume 22 and Ultimatum...apparently I was wrong, so diving back in where I left off

Not sure I’ll ever be able to get past Lafuente’s art style. It’s pretty unpleasing to look at.

And he's back!

Six months after 'Ultimatum' wreaked havoc on Manhattan, and incidentally almost ruined the entire Ultimate Universe, Peter Parker is back. Some things are different. The Daily Bugle has folded, leaving Parker with a fast-food job at the mall, Mary Jane broke up with him, and he's started to date Gwen Stacy. Kitty Pryde is still attending his high school, too, which is still awkward for everyone involved and Kong is a Hot Topic kid now?

Meanwhile, Mysterio is on the rise and there are a couple of refugees from the other Ultimate line-ups that are in town and need a place to stay...

I liked this, it was a good way to kick-start Ultimate Comics (the shot in the arm Ultimate Marvel needed), and I'm glad Bendis is on board. What I did NOT like was David LaFuente's neo-Shonen Jump artwork. I hope he doesn't stick around.

So, don't worry, Bendis' main issue seems to be getting as far away from the events 'Ultimatum' as he possibly can, while keeping things interesting for the characters.
