Pretty good cheesy sci-fi. I read that Vonnegut did not write it and was not pleased that someone else did, however it's pretty creative (probably because he's mimicing Vonnegut's style).
I picked this up thinking it to be more steampunk than Sci-Fi, but I loved it :p
It's kind of crude and the narrator/main character is almost the David Attenborough of aliens and alien sex.
It was crude without being graphic or nasty.
It was a good read and I enjoyed it :)

I really liked the idea that Farmer was playing with -- publishing stories purportedly written by fictional characters. In fact, I think the introductory materials to this collection were more interesting than the stories themselves. The idea of writing stories this way really requires the writer to get into quite another space in order to write.
If you like Hitchhiker's Guide, then you should check out this space odyssey of a more sexually explicit nature. I was given a dog-eared, nicotine stained pages copy from an old era stranger of questionable background, which is oddly appropriate. So, you've been warned...
Pros:
-I liked Chworktap.
Cons:
-The MC is misogynistic and mean.
-There's a lot of prose from in-world literature that is distracting and pompous.

As a work of science fiction in and of itself, it's a fun, forgettable little work. Understood in the context in which it was created, it simultaneously becomes more interesting, and significantly worse. Philip Jose Farmer wrote the book as Kilgore Trout, and built the whole thing around the excerpt of Trout's book that Kurt Vonnegut included in God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. After Farmer published the book, Douglas Adams took the core premise of Venus on the Half-Shell and reworked it into The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Consequently, it's interesting to see both traces of Vonnegut's style and elements that anticipate Adams's style in what Farmer is doing here. But at the end of the day, Farmer isn't as good of a writer as either Vonnegut or Adams. He doesn't have Vonnegut's keen satirical sensibilities, nor Adams' delightful wit.

This book might be my best find... EVER.
Thsi book is a book by Kilgore Trout, a well known alter ego for Kurt Vonnegut Readers. He is a science finction Author that only gets published in dirty magazines as filler between the pictures. He has had hundreds of stories published this way and some of his story ideas are great. Except.. he does not actually exists...
Untill thsi book came out. A great read in the style of Kurt Vonnegut. Only later did everyone realize it was a book by Farmer.
Still.. I always wanted to have this book, never found it, not even on the internet at the normal shops... Well, there was a harback edition, but Kilgore Trout in Hardback? Comeon!
And then, on one glorious day in my favourite second hand bookstore in Amsterdam.. There it was!
