an incredible look into the trauma of different generations and how that trauma follows you and forms you. moving and beautiful, but also pretty fucking sad.

This novel is extremely well written, moving, and insightful. I am blown away how well the author is able to convey what life was like for gay men during the AIDS epidemic before there was a cure. She does it both convincingly and sensitively, a truly admirable feat in my opinion.

I couldn't help but take away from reading this two perspectives. First, how much does a straight woman's perspective help us come to terms with the AIDS crisis of the 80s? Second, this read to me as two incomplete books wedged together through its narrative cleverness. I wonder if I would have responded more fully if these were two separate books.
