Cool, if strange, urban fantasy

I was really invested in the story, but there were far too many awful things that happened to animals, and it was upsetting me way too much to continue.

What a strange, strange book....but good! I love Neil Gaiman. Every book I've read of his has been wonderful, weird and impossible to put down. My favorite will most likely always be 'The Graveyard Book', because it was the first Gaiman book I ever read, but this isn't too far behind. Definitely recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a story that makes the reader suspend their disbelief. It tells the story of Richard. A young man in a boring job, with a demanding girlfriend. Stuck in a rut, maybe, that is until he decides to care for an injured young woman who has the unusual name of Door. She is a native of London; but not Richard's London but a London beneath the city he knows. This sets Richard of on an adventure filled with strange and exotic people. Assassins, angels and beasts who live in a maze underground. Throw in a Marquis, a hunter and a floating market and you have a brilliant off the wall tale. All the stars from me!

Rating: 3.5?

I'm having trouble rating this book. I was really hoping to love it because it was my first Neil Gaiman book, but the first half was so slow, and I was having such a hard time getting through it. The second half was much better, but I don't think it made up for it. I'm not sure if I didn't like Neil Gaiman's style or if it was this book specifically, I'll have to read another one to see!
