According to GoodReads, this is the 2nd time I've read this, but I have literally absolutely no memory of the 1st time I read it; and I have extremely clear memories of things that happened whilst extremely drunk, so I'm doubting that.
Maybe it's so generic that it doesn't leave an impression..?

I generally don't like Jonathan Hickman's work in other comics. A lot of it seems to be retreads of stuff John Byrne did back in the 1980s. This time, though, I actually enjoyed his remix of story elements from the 1970s and '80s, namely stuff from the Infinity gems and the Gardener.

What I particularly enjoyed here was the pacing. After the dismal experience of DC's New 52 books, it was nice to see someone taking their time to build plot and characters. Authors should see how he gives the story room to breathe and punctuates dialogue-heavy bits with either fisticuffs or character conflict.

The art by Jerome Opena is lovely and the story is easy to follow. The latter aspect is not a given these days as artists experiment, trying to break away from the tried-and-true model of panel layout.

Hickman does love blowing up cities, though, which someone on Marvel's editorial staff needs to keep him from doing. Here he's destroyed Perth and Regina, as well as cities in Japan, Croatia and India. Plus the Savage Land. It gets a bit much after a while.

That said, I quite liked the origin stories of both Captain Universe and Smasher. This is how you do origin stories succinctly.

This was a fun graphic novel.

This is about the Avengers gathering a team to go figure out what is dropping from the sky. Once they realize that it is something not from this world, they send the team to figure out what this is they have to deal with the planet that is trying to destroy their planet.

It was entertaining and I really enjoyed being with the Avengers and gathering the Avengers to save the planet from harm. I really liked the story it kept me wondering what and how they were going to get through the events that they were in.

I liked seeing the different superheros coming together to save the planet. Some of them I have never heard of or know much but it was still cool to see these guys come together to protect their home.

Overall I really enjoyed the book and look forward to the next books in this series.

I never re-read comics, but I'm glad I tried Hickman's run again. Almost just as rich and weird as his FF run, which is my favorite modern superhero epic! Excited for the rest of the volumes.

Wow. This issue of Avengers is huge! It’s something like 70 pages, which doesn’t sound like much…but compared to a standard issue it’s more than double. Not that I’m complaining! Naturally there’s a ton that actually happens in this issue. There’s the normal inter-Avengers banter and the like, which is my favorite. A couple of the comments and conversations in this issue are officially my new favorites. I ship the budding relationship that’s occurring, even if I know it’s going to end up going down in flames. Perhaps literally?
There’s also the formation of two new teams (no, I’m not saying who they are) lead by a couple of surprises. We also got to see the more political side to the Avengers. Mostly a reaction to the Avengers though. A lot of fans have been talking about how unhappy the American government would be with T’Challa being in charge…and well let’s just say I was not surprised by the reaction shown.
Namor is still causing trouble. It’s kind of nice seeing him kick up a fuss, truth be told. I feel like it’s been forever since we’ve seen him do much. His team is a lot deadlier than I anticipated though. I know that sounds mean of me to say. I just wasn’t expecting them to be so tough.
Oh! And they may or may not be adding a new teammate or two. That one I’m totally not spoiling for you, but I will say that I squealed like the fangirl I am when I saw it.

This is probably the best Avengers book I've read. I just wished the art was consistent, Kubert also has his art look rushed. This book is a good intro to the new team and what lies ahead.
