Very good story as a prequel to episode one. Very enjoyable audiobook. The narrator is a bit overly dramatic with Darth Maul’s pieces and made it annoying to listen to. As usual with Penguin house productions - a very good production.

What can be called a typical Star Wars book for this period of time in the galaxy (not that this would be a bad thing, I eat this stuff up and leave no crumbs). Reminiscent of some of my favorite episodes of Star Wars the Clones Wars featuring the underworld of coruscant. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Sam Witwer if it wasn’t for him I most likely would not have read this book. His voice is incredible and really made this typical Star Wars story an experience that came to life. Of course the plot is predictable because everyone who knows anything about Star Wars knows the end, but the story has enough twists and turns that the inevitable ending does not end unsatisfying. 20/10 to good old Sam, in a 6/10 book, making it easily and 8/10 (don’t question my methods, they are not sound)

Darth Maul is that bitch. *read along with audiobook - Sam Witwer put his whole Witwussy into that performance*

2nd read: unfortunately not enough Maul in a Maul book

The story was decent, played like a short ttrpg campaign. But where this excels is the audiobook version Sam Witwer does a spectacular job, his voices and narration are exciting and enthralling. All the voices are great (well his yoda could use a little work) but obviously his maul and sidious are perfect and his qui gon is spot on. Give this a listen. I applauded at the end, thanks Sam, we need you to narrate all the books.
