This is what I want out of my Star Wars novels. My wife and I had so much fun reading this book together. Darth Maul is an iconic character, and, in this book, we get a little bit more of his story. Operating in the shadows we watch as Maul embarks on a man hunt to hide the plans of the impending blockade of Naboo. Add in a Sith holocron and a young Obi-wan Kenobi and what you get is a fun book. I’ll admit we spend a little too much time in the underground tunnels. Overall, we had a good time, the writing is good, and the story is tight. We’re not star hopping in this book as we spend almost all our time on Coruscant. Worth a read, but isn’t groundbreaking.

I was recommended this book during the acolyte discourse on tiktok. Moreso for the people having issues with how Disney was canonizing the sith and their legacy. First off, legends was never canon-- so when we do get canonized stuff for it, I'm grateful. One of the things improved upon was Disney brought in bleeding the kybers, which a lot of people claimed Disney did it wrong, legends was better. This book details so much sith lore that solidifies that people didn't actually read these books or they read parts they wanted to and interpreted it just as poorly as people do the Bible.
Spoiler alert, the sith used to grow their own crystals through the dark side, which was why Anakin/Vader didn't bleed a crystal until the Disney Vader comics.
This was an excellent story. I was engaged from beginning to end. I loved meeting all the characters and I'm excited to continue this dark side journey in legends.
