I have moved this down to 3.5 stars from 4 purely because I don't think the language Wilson uses in this book is appropriate for younger children.

It was my favourite book as a child. Reminds me of my childhood best friend, Anna, who recommended it to me. I miss you Anna <3

Don't give chocolate to dogs kids! (And don't call people fat to be mean!)

It was a good read, and pretty realistic

A lot of people seem to think that it's not realistic for a kid to have one good friend for this long, but I know a lot of people who had a friend in kindergarden or primary school and they stayed friends with that person until adulthood. This was a good book about losing a best friend when they move and you suddenly cannot do everything together all the time any more and dealing with that loss. I loved how supportive grandad was and how good her dad was, but man I hated Gemma's mom and her sudden turn around. She was a horrible person most of the time - who shakes the kid every time they get angry over something a kid did? But I got really annoyed when she kept saying that she should just move on and forget about her best friend who she has known her entire life and just move on.. and gets extremely upset when the kid is grieving. I also hated Alice's mom and how stuck up she was. I liked the ending a lot and I liked Biscuits. I also liked Gemma, she is a good representation of a kid with possible ADHD and how misunderstood they can be. It's a pretty decent book about friendship and that friendship surviving being miles apart.
