I'm sorry but there's just too many poems about grass in here—yes, I recognize its obvious symbolism/implications in the context of the collection, tribal sovereignty, and the 2009 congressional apology by the United States but it actually drove me insane

This is so powerful. The latter half of the chapbook is a response to Obama’s “apology” on behalf of the US government and subsequent… actions. Just read it. No it’s so poignant.

This is such an important collection that any poet, serious about learning about the decolonization of form and the political poet, needs to read.
I’ve no authority to speak on the message but I found it powerful and I’m shocked this book didn’t win the National Book Award.
(Shame on anyone giving this less than 4-5 stars. )

AUGH!!! i spent a long time with this collection, i love it so so dearly. layli long soldier is a masterful poet and synthesizes her ideas in ways that made me shake and cry and snivel etc etc etc. what a gorgeous and heartrending way to write about the act of writing itself <3
