This book reminds you that there's always two sides (or three) to every story

Brodesser-Akner is a genius celeb profile writer for the NYT Magazine & you see that immediately in her portrayal of these fascinating characters that have a lot going on beneath the surface. Loved this book; the suspense kept me reading, but the depth of the male and female experience keeps me thinking about it.

Toby and Rachel Fleishman are going through a divorce in the rat race world of upper Manhattan where keeping up with the Joneses is taken to nth level. This book is the autopsy of their marriage. I found this book fascinating. It was full of so-true-to-life observations despite the class differences that helps us all reflect on how we ended up here. Perfect for a mid-life crisis or maybe even for avoiding one.

"Gone Girl, but make it WASP-y!"
Way too much navel gazing midlife crisis stuff. Points for some good one-liners, but overall found it extremely tiresome.

This was a fascinating read. Despite the structure of prose-heavy, loooooooong sections with no chapter breaks, I was riveted the entire time. Toby and the cast of characters in Fleishman Is In Trouble are complicated and lovable and bad and relatable. Taffy Brodesser-Akner creates a grim but tantalizing look at adult relationships, divorce, and aging.

DNF. I literally could not stomach the unnecessarily raunchy dating app fodder. am I supposed to relate to a new york city doctor with dozens of women throwing themselves at him and absolutely drowning him in nudes 24/7?
