This is a darker book than I normally read. Drug cartels in Mexico with torture and a lot of gore. It was free so I tried it out. The torture and gore aside, I enjoyed the story. I will read the next book in the series because it is about different characters so maybe it won't be as gory.
This was the first book that I have read of Karina's and I loved it. This is a dark read and not a very pretty story. There is a lot of violence, abuse, sex and some of that is very violent as well. This book is not for the faint of heart. I can't wait to read the next book I believe it's title is Dirty Deeds![b:Dirty Angels|18281528|Dirty Angels (Dirty Angels, #1)|Karina Halle|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1399833417s/18281528.jpg|25754456]
I devoured this book!! Addictive, sexy, gruesome and thrilling with Karina's classic sense of humour. I loved every single moment of Javier and Luisa's story. I honestly cannot stop thinking about them!!
Dirty Angels by Karina Halle is "an enemies-to-lovers dark mafia romance between a ruthless drug lord and the fiery woman he kidnaps". This story is set in Mexico and steeped in the gritty and dangerous atmosphere of the drug cartel.
Luisa Chavez is a 23-year-old woman who finds herself quickly transforming from struggling waitress to the wife of a drug lord after a very unfortunate encounter with the infamous Salvador Reyes. The silver lining is that she will now have access to enough money to properly care for her parents... but the cost is so much higher than she could have imagined.
Enter: Javier Bernal. Cold. Brutal. Ruthless... and one of Salvador's greatest rivals. Salvador's shiny new wife looks like the perfect leverage Javier needs. Lucia must be taken, she must be held for ransom.. and if Salvador doesn't cave to his demands, she must be disposed of. This is just the way things work in the cartel; it's how deals are made and reputations are maintained. But there's just one problem: Lucia has a fire in her eyes and an unwillingness to break that makes Javier want to keep Lucia all to himself.
This was a wild and addictive ride! I was hooked from the prologue and could not put it down. The way Karina navigated this captor x captive dynamic was perfect, in my opinion. Their story unraveled in such an organic and immersive way. I was seduced right alongside Lucia! At one point I wasn't quite sure how things were going to resolve but the conclusion brought everything together so seamlessly with fantastic character arcs for both Lucia and Javier.
There are some very satisfying and unhinged romantic gestures in this book that I will not soon forget. Javier is my perfect psychopath and Lucia is perfect match. I'm obsessed with them!
And oh my godddd the banter and the one-liners! Perfection. I have always adored Karina's sense of humour — it's one of the top reasons that I love her work so much. But pairing her quirky comic relief with such a sinful and delicious dark romance story is the combination I didn't know I needed.
I am so damn excited to dive into the next books in this trilogy... BUT after I finished, I discovered that this series is interconnected with two of Karina Halle's other dark romantic suspense series: The Artist's Trilogy and the Sins Duet. I immediately looked up the reading order and re-routed myself to start at the beginning.
Reading order:
1) The Artist's Trilogy
- Sins & Needles
- On Every Street
- Shooting Scars
- Bold Tricks
2) Dirty Angels Trilogy
- Dirty Angels
- Dirty Deeds
- Dirty Promises
3) The Sins duet (second gen)
- Black Hearts
- Dirty Souls
*The Artist's Trilogy includes Javier's backstory and the Sins Duet is the second-generation.
As I write this review, I am halfway through Sins & Needles and loving it!! I can't believe it's taken me so long to pick these up. Will I ever forgive myself!? Excuse me while I tumble down Karina's dark contemporary rabbit hole!

"Sex needed to be a little rough and crude to balance out the elegance. A touch of tasteful violence goes a long way."

"I could survive him, his touch, his anger, his passion, because I was starting to understand him. I just couldn’t survive anyone else."

Powerful writing, extreme violence, and challenging characters. This is a romance novel with a razor sharp edge.
4 1/2 stars - Need to find out more about Javier so will be reading S&N soon... terrific read! very entertained but no tears. would LOVE another book on them in their new life
Wicked wonder
I don’t know why I waited so long to read this one. I guess I resisted returning to the dirty thrills because I was worried the chaos would stir up my own. And it did, in all the best ways.
This book is filthy, fun and fantastic. Instead of the scenery as the secondary romance, this book romances violence in a masterful way.
