Nice story but not scary. I loved the father daughter dynamic a lot but the spooky scenes were quite tame. Good for beginners though or if you're scared of reading horror books but want to read them anyway then this will be great read for you.

This story takes place in two different timelines - 1900 and present day.  It focuses on Daniel and his daughter Caitlyn who have lost their wife and mother in an accident on there way home from visiting the home they were planning on moving into.  Through journal entries, we learn about who lived in that house and what happened there.

For a ghost story, it wasn’t very scary or gripping. It was interesting! I can say that if it had been a story only about that 1900 timeline it would have been more awesome in my opinion!  For the most part, it felt incomplete for me somehow.

I would say give it a read though if you like ghost stories!

*I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review of the book*

If you are in the mood for a thrilling horror book, then this could possible be the book for you. This book did have some really good suspenseful and creepy moments that were made even creepier for me as I read the majority of it in the dark, but those moments were sadly short lived. It does some really good build up, but then it pretty much goes nowhere, letting down this book for me.

The overall disappointment for this book for me has got the be the layout and writing style of the book. How the book jumps from present time to the past, from the two different perspectives. Neither of which was a bad story or badly written, but you go from the present horror, thrilling and suspenseful portion, to the past, which is more of a starts as a romance, to a thriller and it takes you away from the horror mood you are in while reading the present chapters. Sometimes it’s nice to get that background information and to get that break from what’s happening, but I went into it just wanting horror! The creepy haunted house was all I wanted! I have simple needs and wants…

I really enjoyed the writing and I know that Steve Frech has written more books, which I am still eager to pick up and see if I am going to enjoy, or if his writing or stories are something that are not going to be for me. Once I started this book I did finish it almost the same day, that is how much I enjoyed the writing and how much I wanted to see how it was going to end, regardless if it wasn’t fully for me. It’s not a bad book, it just wasn’t fully for me and I just found that there was something lacking with it that just stopped me from fully enjoying it. There was lack of character development with other characters within this book and the overall story just could have done with some more depth and with being a little longer to have creating more and therefore to have improved this. Creating more story, more character development and made me care more about what happened in general.

Overall, it was still an enjoyable read and it did have its thrilling and suspenseful moments, which is what I was really wanted from this book. I will be reading another Steve Frech book and see what I make of it and see if it’s a hit or miss.

Oh my goodness. I don’t even know where to begin with this one! I am not usually a paranormal fan, but I loved “Dark Hallows” so much that I knew I had to give this one a try too! It did not disappoint! I could not put it down! The characters were interweaved in the most fantastic and perfect way! This book deserves all of the stars. I loved it

Good, and I enjoyed the overall story, but it sort of felt rushed near the end and kind of fizzled out.

Nightingale House is told from Daniel’s perspective - a newly widowed author who moves into Nightingale House with his young daughter Caitlyn. We also have another perspective told through letters/journal entries from a young woman named Rebecca in 1900.

I loved Daniel and Caitlyn’s characters - they felt real and jumped right off the page. I also loved their father/daughter relationship.

Nightingale House was creepy and unsettled me - especially when I was reading before bed. I wouldn’t say it was scary but I couldn’t read the book in bed because I felt so creeped out. It did drag in some parts and it felt like we were being given lots of pointless information or having scenes that weren’t all that important to the story.

I loved the letters - it was a brilliant way to integrate the two stories together. I was interested in finding out what really happened all those years ago and what they had to do with the present day.

The ending wasn’t all that surprising; it was easy to figure out what had happened in 1900 but it was clever how it all fitted together. I would definitely love to check out other books by this author!
