reading this book feels like you are in a drug filled haze alongside alex and you will leave this novel a little more unmoored from reality than when you started it; in a fantastically brilliant literary way

The reviews that are like "the main character isn't likable" like yeah?? So many stories and ideas in the world would not be told if the main characters were only allowed to be good ppl.. y'all eat this shit up when it's a man.

The main character allowed for interesting commentary on the concessions ppl allow in their relationships and the lack of existence within never truly letting ppl know you & never truly forming close relationships.

This is my second book from Emma Cline and I really enjoy her writing style.

I thought this book was pretty boring but stuck with it because I wanted to see the resolution. The ending was incredibly anti-climactic
it just fades to black when she finally gets to the party
and, to me, deeply unsatisfying.

Book includes frequent on page drug abuse.

Zero plot and zero redeemable characters. Ending made absolutely no sense. Some of the writing was okay, I guess? I really wanted to like it, but it suffered from the worst cool girl, Gone Girl rip off protagonist since Ottesa Moshfegh’s universe.

This roving, voyeuristic novel challenges us with a self-sabotaging, emotionally detached lead but manages to get you to care about her. I enjoyed the read and the vignettes into different peoples lives through the main character’s perspective. However, I found it felt too long, too detached, and ultimately lacked payoff. It’s worth a read, and the writing style keeps you interested, but I’m a little surprised by the rave reviews.
