Great series, great book. Walter Tevis was ahead of his time. Beautiful social commentary and great representation of addiction, masterful writing and characters that you want to root for.

This is definitely worth your time it's a little short so it's a good quick read, and if your a fan of the series nothing much changes except for Jo
she and I blocked this out of my mind I believe and read m, fingers and/or makes jo finger her in eachothers privates and it sorta cones out of nowhere
this book was made a long time ago and there are some logistics when it comes to men writing young and bipoc children so there is racism.

honestly i was questioning whether or not I would like this book since I have never played a game of chess in my life but it is so interesting. The character of beth is very memorable and i thoroughly enjoyed her coming of age story.
there was a perfect amount of side characters and they all added so much to the plot in exactly the right moments. I wouldn’t say the writing is extremely mind blowing but it’s done in a way to keep you engaged.
definitely one of my favourite books i have read this year and I’m definitely going to watch the show because i haven’t yet :)

ughh I love it but I hate it.
its a fast paced, easy read book that anyone could get into, it was a bit dark but I think that was Teviss' goal, the themes of mental illness, addiction, adoption and feminism are well done in my eyes. I dont know if anyone else thought that Beth was autistic but that was a strong vibe I was getting. However :( , this book is soo obviously written by a man who has no clue about young women, tbh it was a bit annoying. plus all the characters had deep flaws which make most of them unlikeable and the ending was predictable. ♡

I’ve never read a book that was written so straightforwardly, I think. I like it.

I diagnose Beth Harmon as autistic.
