Great book! the characters were amazing, the overall story was amazing, everything was just amazing. A piece of modern-day literature.  Would read again. 5/5*

This is a book about chess, but it is also a book about loneliness, addiction, and obsession. I loved it, so much more than I thought I would, despite not knowing anything at all about chess. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed this book and knew the ending having seen the show but was still found that the tension gripped me.

There was a section near the beginning which I felt was unnecessary for the book and didn’t add to the narrative, and at points the chess jargon was slightly more than I could absorb easily.

Incredibly written - fantastic characters who you genuinely understand. It's fantastic and you dont need to understand an ounce of chess to deeply, heartily, root for Beth.

My only criticism - there's a scene of sexual assault at the very beginning that is never mentioned again.

I also find it so interesting that the author is a man.
