(0.5 stars) What a boring waste of time. I could feel my brain cells jumping out my ears. I don’t really know what I expected from an erotic retelling of sleeping beauty but I didn’t think I’d get a 24/7 spankfest. The only thing that kept me going was my curiosity for how one can make sleeping beauty sexy. Rice failed spectacularly and the sleeping beauty aspect really meant nothing. The book opens with Beauty being raped then stripped to become this Prince’s “love slave”. The book ends with Beauty experiencing what can only be described as Stockholm syndrome and getting herself sent to The Village(tm) to experience more torture in the next book (WHICH I will not be reading). The only interesting part was any inkling of rebellion that Beauty has, otherwise it was painfully boring and repetitive. Mostly I thought about no person could possibly withstand the amount of whipping/slapping/paddling etc in one day without drawing any blood. For the record, all that happened was everyone got spanked. There was very little sex and when there was sex it was uninspired.
I couldn’t fathom how every single person was just completely fine with everything happening. Does everyone know? Is this a contained sex cult? What the fuck? It’s not even like a fun read, it’s just bad. It’s a bad book that is just boring and when it’s not boring it’s confusing, weird and unsexy. You really just wonder what the point of the book was because it fundamentally was not sexy. And its goal is to be sexy! Some have said, in defence of the book, that it’s adult, that it’s pornography and NOT erotica but I seriously need you to think how that writes the wrongs of this book?

***Spoilers: This book made me mad almost the whole time. It starts out with Beauty being "date raped" by the Prince to wake her up. Then he takes her to his kingdom without her consent and forces her to be his love slave. The first half of the book Beauty is made to do humiliating things that she doesn't want to do which makes me hate the Prince immediately. She then becomes infatuated with Prince Alexi (another slave) and I started thinking that may be this story was going somewhere I would be okay with. I was wrong. There was quite a bit of time spent on Prince Alexi, including two chapters on his background story, only to have Beauty forget about him in the next chapter and decide to stage an escape so she'll get sent to the village with Prince Tristan! I feel like my time was wasted reading this book.
I'm, by no stretch of the imagination, a prude, nor am I new to the practice of BDSM -- this book's content wasn't as shocking to me as it was fucking ABSURD. There's no plot, it's just (badly written) erotica for the sake of erotica. Dumb.
I had heard that you either love or hate this book. And you can decide for yourself what I thought of it by my star review. Maybe I’m naive, but I didn’t understand the concept of punishment and degradation without sexual reward or arousal. And that is all this book is. From the very start, it’s just about those in power punitively punishing those beneath them - just because they can? I didn’t get it.

Nope. Absolutely not. 50 Shades gets a lot of hate from the BDSM community but at least it has a plot. This book has been one long continuous ass spankings. I wanted to like it, I really did but I don’t have it in me for another 167 pages of Beauty being spanked.
