I once had a customer at b&n tell me she didn't want just a rough steamy romance. No, she wanted degradation, pleasure torture, non consent, at her partners mercy type of book. At the time, I had no idea what to recommend to her, the books I knew of we didn't carry and they didn't hit her requests. I wish I knew this book existed for that customer. I hope someone was able to gift it to her. There's no real plot. The preface really explains where the authors mind was when recreating the sleeping beauty story. Not gonna lie it exhausted me. I can't even truly explain why it's getting 3 stars. It just is.

I was surprised at how little ramp-up there was. Just didn’t work for me.

And I thought [b:Fifty Shades of Grey|10818853|Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)|E.L. Book. Ever.

This book definitely makes you go "Wow", but not necessarily in a good way. The vocabulary is repetitive, the actions of the plot have no driving force and things just happen for the sake of asking "is this going to far." And the answer is yes. The torment and punishments scenes, while not overly offensive, go a bit too far of the grid for my tastes. There are some good moments and generally intriguing behavior responses happen to the characters, but a lot of the scenarios and writing styles are laughable. And it's got me interested enough to finish out the series, so that's saying something.

The themes of rape were too much. I'm all for BDSM, but prefer it to be consentual. The idea of sex slaves being forced into doing horrific sexual acts all for the amusement of a spoiled prince held no appeal to me. Maybe it wouldn't have been so disturbing if Beauty isn't been crying in literally every scene, but I couldn't get past the crying one second and then wanting to have sex the next. I get that it was exploring the conflict, but with absolutely no character or story development, I just couldn't get into it.

I did not enjoy this book at all. I am very put off by forces sexual things and there was a lot of that in this book. I don’t feel like the description prepares you for this book. Also it was not super well written, the characters seemed to have some internal struggle but it was hard to follow due to the poor writing. Felt like the author was more focused on the sexual torment than the actual characters.
