A solid conclusion to the Rune Breaker series. It feels very much like a fantasy RPG adventure turned into a novel: there's a 'research and gearing up' section in town where they plan to attack the bad guys in their stronghold, a big battle on the way there, and then lots and lots of extravagant combat once they launch their assault, with everyone pulling out their best attacks and special combos. Porter does have the good sense to anchor in some important choices for the characters to make in the course of all the mayhem, though. Those choices help make the perhaps slightly over-long battle feel meaningful.
