Before I read this, the reviews I saw were very hit or miss but when it hit, IT HIT. For me, it did hit. I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did because it is YA and therefore written for someone slightly younger than I am but when I got into it I loved it.

I found the story fun while still being really, it explored topics such as grief through many characters and it gave a lot of different perspectives. I was surprised by the amount of diversity this book had to offer and I mean that in the best way. It is nice to read a book where  I feel represented, where diversity in some senses is treated as normal and where I can enjoy myself.

This book was a pleasant surprise, the only reason I gave it 4 stars was that it did take a hot minute to get into and when I did there were sections I had to read over to make sure I was understanding the background correctly.

Aside from that, I think my favourite thing about this is that I enjoyed myself, I enjoyed the story and the drama, I felt it and that is the most important thing. I would recommend it to those younger than myself or those who like to read YA, this was a good one.

Tracy Deonn you have created a MASTERPIECE. I’m so excited to read the next book. I love the intertwining of Arthur and his round table with “magic” (for lack of a better word) and fighting against shadows only those who are descended from Arthur and his knights can see. Absolutely great storytelling.

Also, the amount of representation in this book was amazing!

This rocked my world. This explores power, privilege and duty. It tackles grief and trauma. The balance of the legacy of the past against hope for the future. All with the backdrop of Arthurian legend. Yeah. Read it. Immediately.

I have been wanting to read this book for so long, long before it was even released...but 2020 destroyed my attention span and I just couldn't consume any fantasy. I still haven't conquered any deep epic fantasy, but since this is a contemporary fantasy (set in the modern world, but with magical elements, and added demons etc) I managed to read this one! I am so glad because I love the camelot and aurthurian legend retellings and Legendborn doesn't disappoint. So fun, very fast-paced, and the real life scenarios are also just perfect.

Highly recommend

I was absolutely enthralled and fell for every misdirect the whole way through. What an incredible Arthur twist. I'm so dang excited to read more of this story and more from this author, I can't even express it right now. Just mind the content notes.

I loved this book. It's not the same old, tired YA fantasy despite involving Arthurian legend. I especially appreciate the way grief and institutional racism were handled.

The only thing I am wary of is a potential relationship that could happen in the next book (sincerely hope it doesn't).
