This was brilliant! And such a refreshing theme, how Mr. Rafiel employed Miss Marple on what at first seemed a wild goose chase. The whole retroactive murder thing reminds me of that one Poirot book, except I can’t remember the title now, I’ve read so many.
So happy I figured it out. When Miss Marple says “Love is a frightening thing,” (or something along those lines) I knew it was Miss Clotilde. I mean, who else loved the girl so dearly? It reminded me of “A Sleeping Murder” as well - perhaps why I figured it out so quickly - in that an almost obsessive love for another may lead to them killing their loved one. Love, truly a frightening thing at times. It’s sad how in the end, it becomes apparent that Miss Clotilde has been transformed into something deeply ugly due to her sins.
Overall, I loved this. The start dithered a bit but I feel like that was the entire point - that it initially doesn’t make any sense. Thank you, Agatha, for all these Miss Marple stories.
