okay i fear i understand the hype around these books…….. best friend had me pick up the series and this fucking book had me nearly screaming and crying at several parts. scared and horrified for book #3.
Great second book. Though those with an aversion to love triangles be warned there is one, however it’s not a main component of the book.
everyone: the infernal devices is the best. even if you don't like shadowhunters you'll love clockwork prince
me: so what i'm hearing is, now that this was meh for me, i can confirm i will never like cassie clare books.
anyway. will herondale is just another noah shaw 2012 YA fantasy he's-an-asshole-but-he's-damaged love interest, but y'all aren't ready for that conversation.
but in spite of the fact that this apparently took me a week to get through when i read it in 2015, this was fine.
(this is part of a series i'm doing in which i review books i read a long time ago, in order to clog your update feed and confuse us all.)

Yet again Cassandra Clare weaves a web of characters that you could swear really existed. You cheer for them, get exasperated with them and can't wait to see what will happen next. I constantly had to keep reminding myself that the story is not real. That is what a great book does right? It draws you in and makes you feel. While the story is a fantasy the emotions of the characters are very real. I can't wait for the last installment.
I don't really have anything new to say about this book. It was phenomenal, probably the most in-depth absorbing book Clare has written yet. For those of you who read Clockwork Angel and were just feeling kind of "ehhhhh" about it. This book really opens up the plotline. The characters seemed so real and relatable. I think this book will really convince those of you who though Clockwork Angel was so-so that this really is an amazing story. I was engaged throughout the entire book without any slow or dull parts to make me want to put it down. If I wasn't in class or eating I was devouring this book. No time for sleep because I practically inhaled it in less than 12 hours.
Personally, I had my doubts about this new series of Clare's. I thought, "this is going to be the Mortal Instruments just 2 centuries earlier". But it really isn't. Yes some of the characters are the same but the new ones possess qualities that are entirely their own. Tessa is her own heroine. While she and Clary possess similiar qualities you can just tell by reading this book that Tessa is someone who does things differently than how Clary would. I applaud Clare on her ability to create a completely different story with so many intertwining side stories and still have time to include them all in Clockwork Prince. Definitely a must read book in this series and if you are by chance stumbling upon this review because you are thinking about starting the Infernal Devices but are not sure. Do it. It may take away 12 hours of your time from studying (finals are coming up!) but it is totally and 100% worth it.

The ending omg!! This is one of those rare occasions where I really love every single character. The plot and characters are perfect - I really felt everything they felt, especially heartbroken Will!!!! I love Will and Jem so much, I need them both to have a happy ending no matter what <3
The ending tore my heart in two and made me whole at the same time.
Reread: June 8 to 15, 2016
I didn't notice this the first time around but this book is much faster than the first one. I know some people find these novels fluffy and the world building lacking, but the characters and their interactions are just so good, with so much depth. I love how more of the cast is introduced in this book and I always cry towards the end. Onto the last, trying to prepare for the waterworks that I know are coming.

*SCREECHES* OMGS YOU GUYS. THIS BOOK. MY HEART LITERALLY CANNOT EVEN. The ending of this book tore my soul to bits. I have not been able to put it back together yet. #BRBDYING
LOVES:
-Everything. I adored all the characters. Jem, Will, Tessa, Charlotte, Henry, Sophie....THE LOT OF 'EM.
- THE WRITING. CASSIE'S WRITING IS PERFECTION <3
- The scene where Will jumps up and starts singing that song about demon pox. THAT WAS PERFECTION.
-So I like, re-read the make out scene with Jem/Tessa and Will/Tessa like five times each, trying to figure out WHICH SHIP TO SHIP. I have not figured that out yet. I want Will to be happy, and I want Jem to be happy. #HALP #SHIPPERPROBLEMS
- The cover of this book is so pretty!!!!!!!!!!!
-Charlotte/Henry. I'M SO GLAD THEY'VE FIXED EVERYTHING BETWEEN THEM.
And that is all. I need to get my hands on Clockwork Princess NOW.
