This was probs a 3.5 but I’m upgrading to a 4 bc I enjoyed it more than book 1 and it made me cry multiple times. THE EMOTIONAL TURMOIL IS SOOOOO MUCH!!!!
Watch our live show for this here
This is like a 1.5-2* probably but I'm just annoyed about the whole thing so I'm not rounding it up
My bad streak with the Shadowhunter books continues for yet another month, and I'm fully just accepting the fact now that maybe these books are just not for me, and that's fine. With every book in each series I read, I seem to encounter the same issues over and over again, so my hope is somewhat dwindling. So I'm not going to go into a massive rant review like I have done in the past, you can honestly just read my other reviews and all the same points still stand. The plot in every book so far has been lacking for me, but this one kind of took the biscuit. I genuinely have never read a book that was FIVE HUNDRED PAGES long, and achieved absolutely nothing plotwise. Usually when I finish a book, I sit down and think "Right where were we at the beginning, what was the end goal, and did we achieve it?" not even considering subplots or anything, just main plot. And with this book, there literally was nothing. The plot seemed to be centred around finding Mortmain and confronting him, but... they didn't? And didn't even come close? So we're still exactly where we were at the beginning and I'm stuck thinking... what was the point?
I understand that the romance is supposed to be the main appeal of these books and I've made it clear that the romance here does nothing for me, but even so, there should still be a good plot because it is primarily a fantasy series, and there is nothing happening AT. ALL. The romance love triangle thing is boring to me, and there's obviously a clear end in sight that I'm honestly not here for, and I'm just so over the angst of it all. The "yearning" and angst isn't fun to read, and it's just written to feel more whiny and annoying than emotional.
I don't know, I have a lot of issues with these books, I've made it pretty clear. I just think they're kind of lazy and just lacking all round for me.

I loved it! The story and the characters, the drama and the romance, set in richly gothic and georgous Victorian London. I was enthralled!
Skip the audiobook... I love this book but I decided to listen to it this time and this narrator made it almost unbearable. Her accents are distracting. Every one of them is so much more dramatic than it needs to be. Jem is too animated and Will isn't animated enough. And don't get me started on Woolsey Scott...
Wonderful book but terrible audiobook.
Wonderful book but terrible audiobook.
Feels like when you buy a cheap throw blanket and set it over a couch. You can SEE the couch and all of its fibers THROUGH the throw blanket. The throw blanket is this story, and the couch is the entire Harry Potter universe. Not a bad thing necessarily. It's nice to see the couch again. Haven't looked at the couch in a while.

So many series I've been reading lately have fallen victim to the 2nd novel syndrome--first book is fantastic, while the second book falls short of expectations, leaving it up to the third book to save the trilogy in the mind of the reader. Clockwork Prince does not fall into this category at all. If anything, I enjoyed Clockwork Prince more than Clockwork Angel, because I felt we had a grasp of the characters more in this one than the second one. The twists and turns kept me guessing and it was just as heartbreaking as I had been led to believe--I'm not sure I'll survive Clockwork Princess!
