I really enjoyed this book. Finally the series is where folks promised me it would get. It was funny, witty and fast paced. If you aren't an ardent reader, I'd not read this series because it took its time getting here. This book wouldn't be nearly as good without having all the back story of the previous ones.

Entertaining but the least favorite of all in the series so far for me.
1. For me, the lack of focus on Kate's developing powers was really disappointing. She didn't really grow much in this department so I'm hoping for more in Book 5.

2. Action was far more sparse compared to Book 3 (which I loved) and didn't seem as well written. For example, the climactic fight with Erra was really dissastifying for me... like she went down faster then she should've, with the whole introduction of her powers, her thousands of years of experience (especially), and her blood armor/control etc. An example of odd writing, the part where Kate was wondering where Erra's "blood spikes" went and then she thought she felt a "hot spike" of pain in her rib ... we still don't know exactly how Erra's armor/spikes work and that literal to figurative use of "spike" was confusing. Her defeat felt tooooo convenient.

3. I found the focus on romance in this book ... boring and at times a bit irritating. Which is surprising but at the same time, not really. Like, it's inevitable they get together (#plot armor) so the back and forth annoyed me, especially since I was looking forward to the action and Kate's powers. And the whole "mate" "mate "mate" and tropey/dramatic explanations of Pack nature/rules and Curran being alpha male just made me roll my eyes or cringe. The first 3 books did the romance so well... in that it took the back seat. I knew that eventually the authors would have to solidify the relationship between Curran and Kate but the whole process was taxing and sadly the main focus of this book.

I hope we get back into the intense action/power development in the next installment!

I just can't with this book.

Like I literally can't!

I have so many feelings. Kate. And Curran.
And there's family drama. Order drama. Pack drama.
Ugh this is going to build up into something intense in the next books. There's going to be a showdown and I have a feeling I might not like it. Ughhhhh

Super fun. Probably my favorite of the first... 7? Whatever I'm up to now. Good progress on the long term plot arc and character arcs, good Kate-Curran bits.
My only complaint...
Spoileris that it's just a little *too* convenient that Erra destroys Kate's apartment *and* necessitates her leaving the order, making the decision to move to the keep much much smoother.

I really like this series a lot. I think it's probably my favorite urban fantasy series (unless there's one I'm forgetting at the moment). The last couple of chapters are always the best.
