this would have struck a nerve if i had read it as a senior in high school. i wish i happened upon this book earlier in my life.
solid 4.5
i LOVED the concept of this book, really original
and the way the characters are described, they feel real to me (at least the main ones, kinda wanted to know more about raine)
anyways it was such a nice read

Alice Oseman you never ever fail me. I finished this book in two sittings, never once checking the page number. I never want to ever let go of Frances and Aled, god what a beautiful friendship. I forgot how much I missed good platonic relationships like theirs—really reminded me of my good friends! Plus all of the side characters were incredible: Raine, Carys, Daniel, Frances’ Mum. Just amazing. My heart was happy every time there was a pop culture reference, as I understood every single one of them. God I loved this book but my heart is sad that that’s the last Osemanverse book I had yet to read :(
it wasn’t bad but i’m a little disappointed. i think it's just my own personal school stress being projected onto frances's school stress so it amplified my own stress and made me do mental gymnastics just to get through the book.
also it was somewhat realistic until the whole climax started, and then it was just like ok you can tell this was written by someone who is chronically on tumblr. maybe if i was sentient in 2016 i’d like it a lot more but i was kinda too busy being 8 years old. also aled did piss me off at times.
no yeah i think i read this at a bad time, but it wasn't horrible y'know i loved carys/february i wanna be her when i grow up

I like the book but I think it lacks deep, we know the characters but we also just know very keys points .We don´t see Daniel and Aled being anything, Daniel is us as a plot device to know more about the protagonist. The book move so fast in the end and everything is so easily resolved. I like Frances all her conflicted feeling about being herself but I could not feel the evolucion. In the end I feel that the author tried too hard to get every kind of rep in there.
