wouldn’t recommend reading this while pregnant but it’s one everyone should read cause honestly how do we still have people working in the NHS with the conditions they have to work in

I received this book as a proof copy. However, this does not alter the following opinion which is my own.

This book was seriously addictive. As in “I will evade all my duties, tasks and responsibilities only to keep reading” addictive. It only lasted me for two days. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

To be completely honest, I have been interested by this kind of medical autobiography or medical memoir since last Christmas. I am finding them very relatable. For the subject, it is narrated in a very light hearted way, even comical. The author is very sarcastic, and has a very peculiar humor that I really enjoyed as is very similar to mine. (Note: I have noted that this is the kind of humor that every healthcare professional end up developing.) It makes the book so much an “easy read” that you don’t see the ending coming. Even though you know from the begining how it's going to end.

I would personally recommend this book to everyone. It is great to get to know the NHS from the inside, as it really is, instead of what some people want to make you believe it is. And shows the messed up reality of these kind of jobs. Also, you will be able to graze why privatizing the NHS is a really bad idea. Do not let the “medical jargon” scare you as it is all very well explained and detailed with marvelous footnotes that are pure gold.

I will finish this review saying that I was a nurse and I have felt this book maybe too personally. I can relate to many of the things that burnt the author: lack of staff, crazy hours, shit pay, endless shifts, crazy changing rotas, lack of sunlight, lack of social life, and feel drained and eventually unable to cope. This are the thing that eventually lead me to the desission to leave nursing. This is not just one man’s story, this is pretty much all healthcare professionals that work in the NHS.

Oh my GOSH!! I listened to this audiobook in less than 2 days! I absolutely loved this book. It was a genuinely funny collection of stories from a former doctor. Some were horrifying and surprising but lots were funny moments that had me laughing to myself whilst I listened. However, it touches on many upsetting stories, such as the incident that led to Adam’s decision to leave. This book completely opened my eyes to what happens in the NHS and shocked me that people deal with these things everyday. It left me with huge respect for doctors and nurses (even more than I had before) who work in the industry. I believe this is a must read for everyone!

An absolute ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ /5 stars for this one

A hilarious insight into the life of a junior doctor with poignant message at the end.

This absolutely is a must read for everyone! Will make you cry, laugh and get mad at the government. Amazing book.
