Hmmm. I really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sympathise with Adam given his own lack of sympathy towards his patients and fellow co-workers.

Although his attitude got a little better by the end of the book, I was still quite appalled at the insensitivity of his anecdotes (e.g. the PCOS patient, the anaemia patient, the anaesthesia anecdote!?) There was no reason for these to be included other than to humour his audience, which IMO didn't have its intended effects.

While I appreciate his social commentary on the NHS system, I believe it would have created a much more effective message if he didn't undermine it by mocking and ridiculing other professions who work in the exact same system and patients who are obviously in distress.

Doctors are human. A great listen from Adam Kay.

Listened to this on an audiobook and it was even better as narrated by the author. It’s a diary entry style book and I really enjoyed the stories that he shared and experiences. Some parts had me laughing out loud but there were also some sad parts coming from personal experiences he’d had and how they affected him. Overall a good listen
