It's always interesting to have a window into someone else's job, but the format of this book didn't work that well for me. Each chapter was short, with a similar format of [funny story about work --> punchline]. Kind of like the type of story, joke structure you hear in a speech at a wedding. After a while I got tired of it. The content didn't feel very thoughtful or self-reflective, which is something I value when reading memoirs.
That said, based on what's described here I agree with the author's premise that the NHS system of overworking doctors doesn't seem very smart or beneficial to anyone in the system.

Incredibly funny and yet somehow still quite moving. Everyone should read this before voting for any government that wants to squeeze NHS budgets further or introduce reforms aimed at diminishing its proper role and making it more profitable for private companies.

Quite interesting to hear the stories of one doctors experience in the NHS and private sector. Loved talking to a friend of mine who is a current doctor who has recently done a stint in obs/gyn to see how things compare

A very funny collection of anecdotes from a former doctor, I enjoy Adam Kay’s wit and have a new found respect for the hours of genuine stress doctors put themselves though everyday.

Funny at times and frustrating at others, this powerful journey through medicine is eye-opening to say the least.

Kept seeing this on the bestsellers lists and so thought I'd give it a try. Light-hearted and very funny but with an underlying serious message of how much we demand of our medics.
