Quite the slog to get through. It didn’t really get exciting until the last twenty pages.

Who wrote this and what did they do with Thomas Harris? This is nothing at all like the taut thrillers Harris previously wrote. The characters are flat and boring, the plot is vague and uninteresting, and if the book weren't so short and didn't have such huge print, I wouldn't have bothered to finish it. (Seriously, I checked twice that I didn't accidentally end up with the large print edition - this wouldn't have topped 150 pages if the print hadn't been so big and the chapters so broken up.)

It's essentially a heist story. The story randomly jumps about meaning you don't really know what's going on and several times what it jumps to is completely irrelevant. The dialogue is annoyingly phrased and the characters lack any substance. Don't waste your time

I've read words which meant nothing to me in the end. The setup was great. I thought a story of a migrant woman struggle and entanglement in high crime activities was very urgent to the social climate we are living in. But as the story progresses, it doesn't seem like a story of a migrant woman.
The ending manages to bring some tension, but the book is too slow for it to have a big impact.

It has probably been more than 25 years since I last read Thomas Harris; the Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. I cannot say for certain, but this did not have the same feel as those books. It was more like a mediocre imitation of Elmore Leonard or maybe Carl Hiaasen (more for the location in Florida than anything else) or even James Lee Burke. It isn't bad, but it isn't like his earlier works.

Can only really describe it as meh. It wasn't hard to get through and I did find the story somewhat interesting, but it generally was a bit lackluster

The writing = good.
The story? Totally boring. Soz Thomas Harris.

I went in with high expectations and was sadly disappointed. Super basic plot that was fairly predictable.
