This book is about Shirin who's a Muslim woman wearing a hijab. She goes through racism, high school, and people from her own religion rejecting her, but she still continues through.
I loved this romance more than I would've thought, since i hate conflict. It's funny, sad, had me crying, and loving Ocean. I did want some closure with that other Muslim guy in her school and breakdance group, but otherwise the ending was very pleasing. Don't know why they had to move at the end, could've seriously stayed in one city longer than a few months according to me.

i definitely feel like i’m in the minority when i say i didn’t love this, which makes me sad because i for sure thought i would.
the writing was fine and i liked most of the characters a decent amount, i just wasn’t expecting it to be so heavy on the romance for some reason?
the relationship between shirin and ocean was cute and all but i just feel like it kind of overshadowed everything and i wish the focus would’ve been given to other parts of the story a little more.
i would’ve liked more of the breakdancing storyline to have been incorporated, it kind of felt shoved to the side for the majority of the book.
another thing i didn’t love was how back and forth the romance was, after like the fourth time shirin pushed ocean away i was just kind of over it.
the ending was pretty solid and i’m glad representation like this exists, i just wish the story was better.

I’m disappointed. Based on the synopsis I thought this book would be deeper. I thought this book would be more about her culture. Instead it was an instalove story with an annoying love interest. I really liked her brother, Navid, and his friends. But I can’t think of many nice things to say about this book right now.
-the first 2 pages are really bad but then the book gets so much better after that
-very very funny and entertaining and epic
-i'm such an anti-romantic
-i liked shirin and ocean's interactions very much
-the mc has so much personality and love and amazingness and she's so cool

Idk if it’s just bc I don’t have a heart, but it all just felt very meh to me. Not bad, but not good either. It just…was.
