“How do you know if you’ve done the right thing?”
“If the decision you’ve made has brought you closer to humanity, then you’ve done the right thing.”

HOLY SHIT this book!!!! I can't even describe how much I enjoyed and like this book. This is the first book of Tahereh Mafi that I read. I mean I didn't think [b:A Very Large Expanse of Sea|38720939|A Very Large Expanse of Sea|Tahereh Mafi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1558453377l/38720939._SY75_.jpg|60301626] would this enjoyable and very "light" read, yet the plot was so heavy.
I think, this book is definitely Mafi's semi-biography(?)
I don't know. One thing I know is this book give me chills, anger, frusttration, yet...so warm and full of love. Ocean is my dream guy!
"Maybe I could try letting go of my anger—maybe I could try being kinder for a change—but I knew that even the most optimistic attitude wouldn’t change the structure of the world we lived in."
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS IVE READ. ITS SO SWEET. IT TEACHES SO MANY LESSONS. SHIRIN IS A HIJABI AND FALLS IN LOVE EITH THIS GUY OCEAN. ITS SWEET AND MONUMENTAL AND IDEK
DNF. I got mega annoyed when that girl took the pic of Shirin. Not saying it’s a bad book, I just get annoyed when like plot twists like that happen.
My goodness. Tahereh writes the most heart breaking, sould shattering books. I am in love with this woman and the work she has brought into this world. First of all, I am a big fan of a main character that is a POC. HUGE FAN. I FANGIRLED IN MY LIVING ROOM FOR A WEEK ABOUT THIS. Second. I don't want any spoilers in this review. So please just read this book. It is eye opening and a very wonderful slice of life book that took my breath away.
As a reader i enjoyed this book, it was pretty cool and the ending was like kinda sad
HOWEVER, as a muslim i must say that alot of info and stuff that happened here about islam and related to islam were not true and the main character did things that are not allowed in islam and that, l believe, depends ig on everyone’s specific beliefs but im not gonna give it a rating bc i liked the plot it was interesting but giving it a high rating would just overlook my views for the others things and giving it a low rating would be unfair bc its not a bad book its just the way islam is portrayed :)

An angry Muslim girl is angry at the world, then experiences first love.
Hands down one of the best YA novels I’ve ever read. For me, an eye-opening look and what it feels like to be Muslim in America. Amidst racism, sexism and ignorance, Shirin’s story is raw, relentless, and heartbreaking. Although over the course of the story, her walls came down slowly, I would have enjoyed a slightly more stretched out ending. Loved how the author wrote such emotion into the dialogue and interactions between Shirin and Ocean without saying too much.
