Garbage sorry but I stress a lot with the protagonist
I read this book for my 9th grade English and if I tell you, I ran through it in a week and keep in mind I didn't read a lot before that. I loved this book so much that I became friends with some freshmen so that we can talk about this book. The only thing I don't like about this book is that the main character is so annoying, I mean I understand why she is the way she is but she has no reason being mean to ocean so mush and he just sits there and love her while she treats him like an object. But the author is great and I absolutely adore her writing style and I have read some of her other books and they are just GREAT.
3,5 ⭐

i can't speak for the muslim or iranian representation, but it was a great coming of age story. i ate it up on audiobook in two days.
i wish they would have focused less on the romance though.

A Very Large Expanse of Sea was one of the best books I’ve read in a WHILE.
Solid 5/5. You NEED to read it.

Meet Shirin, a 16 year old Muslim girl, the transfer student and known as the girl with the scarf. Shirin has dealt with numerous horrible comments from people for as long as she can remember. She endured insults about her religion and race. Because of that, she’s never really trusted anyone at all. She’s built up this protective walls around and never lets anyone close to her. Until she meets Ocean James, who proves to her that not all people are horrible as she thinks.
Firstly, this book made me miss reading YA romance novels... A LOT. It was simple, easy to read, and a feel good one. I really enjoyed it. I love the fact that the main character is a hijabi like me. And I rarely come across books that features a Muslim hijab teen’s coming of age story so this is definitely a memorable one for me. Not only that but it talks about stereotyping and racial issues at the same time and that the two main characters accept and love each other’s individual differences despite that. I gave it a 4⭐️ cause there were a some cheesy moments that made me cringe which I think if I read this in highschool, I would’ve enjoyed it and given it a 5 stars. Overall, it’s lighthearted, a bit cheesy yeah, moving, and raw. I would definitely recommend it.
