Needed an audiobook to hold me over until the next Alan Partridge one in September. James Acaster did the trick. The first chapter or two were a bit boring but as the all the pieces began to fit together in chaotic fashion, it continued to pay off. If you haven’t watched his stand-up, Acaster tells stories about his life but all made-up it absurdist, Looney Toons fashion. His payoffs are surprises and often with increasing returns.

Fun fact: Katie wanted to rewatch his special at 3am while she was in labor. The nurse came in saying the fetal heart monitor was picking up an erratic heart beat. Turns out, Katie was just laughing too hard.

Enjoyable silliness about leaving social media and the internet but never having to get FOMO.

Such a great comedy writer! Very clever "self-help" book which is guaranteed to have you pouring tar over your phone screen and saying goodbye to social media for good!

A surrealist tale of James’s attempt to quit social media, or perhaps more appropriately, in the words of Bernice: “to live an online life offline”.

To me it felt reminiscent of James’s Netflix special: James Acaster: Repertoire.

For me it dragged on a bit. I read the book, I might’ve fared better with the audiobook.
lighthearted slow-paced

This was like an extended skit and fell a little flat at times. Fine enough but not Acaster’s best writing.

The concept gets old very quickly.
Not a memoir more comedy fiction.
adventurous emotional funny lighthearted medium-paced

wonderfully silly book, James. you've done it again!
funny lighthearted fast-paced

this was a wild ride and that’s all I will say.

oh, and do the audio book; no question.
