Landing in the middle on this one. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it. Her writing was amazing. She’s a master of painting a picture in your head. However, I didn’t like or care about any of the characters, not even and especially the main character. That made it hard for me to care about the story as a whole, despite a unique and interesting concept.

This was a library check out that I enjoyed immensely. It's less spec-fic than fantastic in the Alice Hoffman tradition. A little spooky, a lot engaging and it kept me turning the pages.

This story is predictable. But, the writing is totally captivating and you find yourself so engrossed. You can't put the book down even when you want to.

Interesting book. Quick read with good romance without being trashy. It was easy to see how the two love interests were the opposite sides of the same coin. I did not expect the ending.

Very slow paced and boring. I wanted to like it, but it seemed to be stretching.

Although I am not much for magical realism, I do believe in the magic of scent and this book captured my imagination. I kept trying to smell Evangeline. I almost felt like I could. The book was lovely, sensual, nd weird. A good combination. Its New Orleans setting was particularly apt. Surely you wanted to go right out and find your perfect scent after reading this book.

The premise of this book was very interesting. There were definitely some phrases here and there about the concept of scent that got under my skin (in a good way).

Overall, I felt that the characters weren't fully developed and didn't have much growth. The climax wasn't really built up enough for it to feel like a good payoff.

Yeah, sooooo YA cliché. Love triangle, one guys good, the other not so much...BUT it's so boring. And if you plan on trying this out, READ it. The audio makes the boring worse!!!

An ambling, beguiling, smoky, sexy, olfactory piece of work.

Short and easy to just stumble through, Scent literally grabs your breath and sort of takes it away. Writing in such a way that you can infer your own meanings and not be bogged down in the prose, the author allows you to make your own way and thus prevents a certain encumbering that comes so often with so many books.

It felt like I was bathing in this book, gathering meanings about life, love, and scent and therefore essence. I feel this will be a book I revisit someday, and will infer some different meanings upon further time and inflection.

Read the synopsis and see if this is for you. I'm not quite sure who I could recommend it to, but I say try it out if you are looking for something a bit more out of the box and unstructured but still totally readable. Suspend belief and just let it flow through you. Like Eva's essence, it just might leave a mark.
