Kristin Hannah has done it again!!  This book was FABULOUS!!  As someone who grew up in the 60'sand 70's who was on the young side when the Vietnam war was going on, in osme ways, this book was a "refresher course" but with more depth regarding The Women who served (which I'm sure I wasn't aware of back then).  Having my father die (1970) during a time when women did not have checking accounts or credit cards in their names, I was well aware of some of how women were treated during this time period.  I found this book intense, sad, uplifting, funny, suspensful and even shocking at times (I had to remind myself to close my mouth whenever something took me off guard).  Even when I suspected soemthing was going to happen, I was still surprised when it did - sometimes because of the the timing of when it happened and sometimes that it did. In addition, every song that was mentioned instantly took me back to that time in my life.  Highly recommend!

I am so glad that this book was my introduction to historical fiction. Kristin Hannah has SUCH a gift when it comes to storytelling. She turned such a hard, dangerous time into a beautiful story and truly showed how important friendship is when times get tough. I wasn’t expecting to cry during this book, but she had me crying the whole time! And the ending?! Ugh, so so beautiful!
